This holiday season is going to be dismal for more people than ever before. I suspect one of the overwhelming reasons is because they are used to attaching the acquisition and distribution of things to the significance of the season. Here's a news flash - the most significant gift you can give to anyone is the gift of yourself. When you open your door and entertain someone who did not announce their coming; that's a gift. When you hand deliver holiday greetings to friends and family members - give them a kiss and keep moving - that's a gift. When you go and spend time with someone who is sick, physically or vehicularly challenged; that is a special gift because showing someone you care is often the thing they need most to recover and/or reconnect with their own sense of worth.
The best gift you can give to yourself is to become free within. Learn to laugh at yourself. Laughing at your self will not only help to alleviate your personal and emotional aches and pains; it will help you to finally accept yourself and love yourself just as you are - without apologies or exceptions. Amazingly, the more you appreciate and love yourself; the more others will love and appreciate you - for you.
In a nutshell, focus on spending some time and perhaps even sharing your wisdom and understanding with the people in your life. Be sincere and honest with them in all of your conversations (without judging or ridiculing... anyone including yourself). Beat them at their favorite games - or at least sell a lot of wolf tickets. Those are gifts that will be etched in their memories. Gifts they can cherish for all time.
One last thing; your children, nieces, nephews, grand children... take cues from you. If you make a gift-less holiday a day filled with fun activities and love they won't even miss the gifts. In fact, they'll get a better gift; a closer bond with the real and fun you.
In joy,
Andrea

A great message, Andrea. It isn't about the things, it is about the love.
