Rest and Relaxization

If you're anything like me, you have a tendency to submerge your heart, mind, body, and soul into a project that is for you a passion.  And like me, your body may have forced you to take a step back and rest.  When that happens, surrender yourself to this blessing and rest.  Truly rest and allow your body, mind, and spirit to recharge and renew.

One of the hardest and most rewarding things to learn in life is our own bodies.  That was my maternal Grandfather's mantra - 'get to know yourself'.   On of his fetes that I remember most vividly is when he was diagnosed with diabetes.  He declared that he wasn't taken any medicine.  He did not take any medicine.  Rather, he confidently followed his heart; his inner knowing.   He passed away in his early 90's of natural causes, more than 50 years after his dreaded diagnosis.  May he rest in peace.

One thing that I believe really help my Grandfather is all of the time he spent alone with himself in his garden.  He didn't put his essence on a schedule by being open to inspirational moments and ideals between 3:45 and 4:15 for example.  He was at peace with himself - a disposition we would all do will to live by.  The inner peace I'm speaking of is a perpetual state of openness wherein guidance, ideas and insights flow to us regularly.  Let's face it, because we are human, there will be times when we second guess or decide against our own intuition - those are learning experiences.

If you are on a mental treadmill that you cant seem to get off of.  If you are often anxious and don't know why.  If your mind is cloudy and you can't seem to think or see straight - it's time to get acquainted with yourself.  Your answer may be to become more spiritual, your answer may be to spend more time with your family and friends - giving and receiving unconditional love.  Your answer may be as simple as rearranging a few pieces of furniture in your home.  Whatever your answer is - it must come to you from within.

Mental, physical and/ or emotional solitude gives us the peace of mind we need to analyze our own thoughts and actions in consideration of our ethical values and life's goals.  This will not only give you insights about your key strengths and motivations, it will enable you to make wiser, more sound decisions in every aspect of your life.  Here's the rub - if you've never spent time with your self - the getting acquainted process may be scary, unsettling; or even disappointing.   Don't turn away from yourself in bewilderment or disillusioned.  Rather, embrace this beautiful wonderful opportunity to work toward making you the best person you can be.  the person of your own dreams and no ones else's.

It is hard to learn to be alone when being alone is a great fear. But eventually, it is comforting to spend time to myself and with myself. Thanks for the message. Your grandfather seems like a very wise person.

Thanks Syd,
I think of my Grandfather as a wise man. But he was also called other things all akin to stubborn. = )

You raise a good point though, one that I often forget - there are people in the world who do need to ease in to spending time alone. When I first learned to pray. Someone gave me a booklet about 60 seconds. Perhaps that will be a great way for people to learn about and get used to being alone with themselves - 60 focused seconds at a time.
