"Black in America"

I watched two episodes of a CNN produced series titled "Black in America" a few weeks ago.  For the first time ever, I realized that there are more prominent, upwardly mobile, forward thinking, wealthy, dynamic. . . black folk in America than we can imagine.  Just like with people of most races - we, for the most part,  only hear about and see those who make their living in the sports or entertainment industries or get a lot of press for something else they've done (be it great or criminal)..

It's my personal opinion that - like the successful brothers and sisters who have proceeded us - we need to be about the business of becoming our best selves - irrespective of every one or thing else.  I humbly believe that culturally, we were created to be a communal people.  Too many of us (myself included) however have allowed our love and desire to be with each other to overshadow the greater purpose for which we each have been given life and gifted with a skill or talent to perfect.

I have come to believe that the more I embrace my own gifts and talents and incorporate them into my everyday life - the greater and more noteworthy I will become as a person.  And that the greater ad more noteworthy I become as a person, the more I will be worth and greater opportunities will then begin to dawn my path.  (As long as I don't short change myself or allow anyone else to short change me.)  Finally, I believe that once I'm finished getting my home and financial affairs in order and am living a peaceful and orderly life on purpose - I will, more then ever before be in a position to live the life of my dreams.  That's the dream I'm working toward anyway.

Peace,

Andrea

Andrea, some great thoughts here. I feel as if I am living the life of dreams.
